How Email Marketing Helps Your Gym
There are so many marketing strategies out there, it makes sense you may be overwhelmed. Some people swear by paid advertisements, others say that content marketing is the way to go, and now I’m here telling you that you should be sending out emails because it has the best return on investment, money and engagement wise.
But don’t panic, buddy!
Let me explain how you can market a gym with email strategy and why email marketing is so effective, still.
What’s email marketing?
But first, you’ll need to understand what email marketing is. Email marketing is all communication done with your clients through emails. Many gyms think they can only send emails to their existing members, but with the right set-up, you can also send emails to people who aren’t ready to get a membership yet.
Email marketing is a cost-effective way of marketing. Yes, you’ll need to pay for an email software and *me*, but the return is great and compared to other types of marketing, email marketing is a pretty great deal!
Email people who aren’t a member yet
Someone in my social media feed said this:
‘The more I get to know someone, like them, trust them, learn from their content, the more likely I am to buy’
When people visit your website, they’re interested in finding a gym that works for them. Inviting them into their email list is a small commitment they’re likely willing to make. So take advantage of that! With your welcome sequence, you can show them who you are and that you understand what they’re going through. The more likely they are to sign up or pay you a visit.
Email marketing consists of different types of email. If you want to use the power of emails to your full advantage, you set up automated emails that are segmented to the subscriber. This means that, for example, you create five emails for a welcome sequence. You schedule them based on an action, in this case that's subscribing to your list. Right when they hit the subscribe-button, they’ll receive an email saying something along the lines of ‘thanks for subscribing’. The emails that follow are set to a certain amount of days after the previous email. These emails can also be targeted to people who aren’t a member yet, to familiarize them with your company and make them feel comfortable and welcome.
Once it’s set up, you don’t have to do anything to have them sent anymore because they’re automated.
With segmenting, you increase the engagement with your emails massively. That’s because segmented emails are way more relatable. Think of somebody who has fat-loss as a goal. You won’t send that person an email about high-calorie bulking recipe’s…
I can go on here, but I’m sure you get the point.
Why is email marketing important, and how does email marketing help your business?
Email marketing is insanely important for your business. It allows your clients to build and maintain a strong and long-lasting relationship. You’ll keep them engaged with what’s going on within your community and hold them accountable for showing up. Most people check their emails when they’re about to start the day and will quickly scroll through their emails again at the end of the day.
Maybe even more importantly, with emails you can upsell products and services and thus increase your average revenue you make per member!
Fun Facts:
A subscriber is about 30% more likely to stay engaged when they receive a welcome sequence, And they are one of the most important emails you’ll send out because the subscriber is at their highest point of interest when they just signed up!
A subscriber is about 50% more likely to click the Call To Action in your email when it’s segmented to their interest and calling their name.
A subscriber is essentially a warm lead because they already showed interest. That’s why roughly 60% admits having made a purchase because of an email they received. That’s a lot less than the 12% of people who consider buying through a social media post.
Adding email marketing to your business’ strategy will:
💥 welcome new clients. You send them emails with clear information about your company, so they feel comfortable coming in for a workout
💥 build trust with your clients. You send them valuable information, tricks and tips in personalized and segmented emails
💥 keep your clients engaged, so they stay with your company. Finding a new client is much harder than retaining someone who’s already interested. It’s also important to aim for an average membership duration of 14 months. This is roughly a tipping point where your investment into obtaining your client becomes worth it
💥 help launch new products or services. You build excitement, inform them and sell them whatever that new offer may be
Gym marketing strategies
I touched on a part of the strategy under ‘What’s email marketing?’. But that’s just the beginning. Basically, you have broadcast emails that you’ll send out weekly/daily/every other day/etc. And there are automated email sequences you send for a specific launch, event or other trigger. A trigger can be clicking on a link in one of your email or whatnot.
All these sequences have a strategy that create the customer journey. You’ll want to have a smooth transition from not knowing about you, your company, service whatsoever, to pushing that button with your call to action. This will be different for someone who already knows something about the problem compared to someone who is completely unaware.
Where do you start? A great way to start an email list is by offering a free product, such as an e-book. This e-book is usually small, something like three pages, and includes valuable information your subscriber might want. In the case of a gym, it can be your pricing list, a fun home workout routine or a snippet of your nutrition guide.
Email list management services you can hire me for
All of it.
Well, let’s look at your goals first. 😉
Depending on the size of your business and the work that needs to be done, I’ll set up your email list and strategize how we’ll grow the list. So, instead of just writing your emails, I also upload them to your Email Service Provider, schedule them, create automations, and send them out. I’ll also make sure the deliverability is great to optimize open rates and sales!
Obviously, I can’t start from scratch and have all the sequences done within a week. So if we’re starting from scratch, we will strategize and plan ahead efficiently.
If you already have an email list, that’s wonderful! Let’s see where you’re at, what you’ve done before and how that went. Based on that, we can strategize and move forward.
But basically, reach out if you need:
An email list built

Two big bonuses hiring me as your email list manager
There are two big bonuses you get when hiring me as your email list manager, instead of just working with a copywriter. The first bonus is the fact that the process will be A LOT simpler. I write your emails, upload them to your EmailServiceProvider, schedule them and send them out for you. No hiccups or delays because someone on your team has different priorities and tasks.
The second bonus is that I ensure the deliverability of your emails. Delivering your email to the primary inbox is key to optimize open rates, and thus engagement & sales. A lot of business owners don’t seem to realize how important this is, but think about it: what’s the point of sending emails if nobody reads them. Landing in the promotions tab = leaving money on the table.
I’m here to fix those problems and make your email list worthwhile.
Book a call with me right away or email your questions first.
